Nuclear fission reactions are chain reactions, in which the splitting of an atomic nucleus releases neutrons that penetrate other nuclei, causing them to split.
OK South Charlotte / Ballantyne hasn’t gone ‘nuclear’ yet …but it’s getting closer. Nuclear as in a chain reaction causing South Charlotte to split into a city of it’s own. Providence, NC (at least they get rid of the CH problem…although will be a long time before anyone thinks first about this Providence and not that one. Maybe New Providence would be a better name?
This is has been brewing for awhile and not unusual for a city that has grown as fast as Charlotte…according to the US census Charlotte is the fastest growing city/metro are in the country up 64.4%. Not surprising that some of our fellow South Charlotte / Ballantyne area citizens are fed up with…
- Centralized Charlotte schools and a bloated CMS bureaucracy
- Rising property taxes and crazy property re valuations (low property taxes used to be a big plus for Charlotte)
- Less than favorable Mecklenburg County Commission and Charlotte City Council representation and performance
- Charlotte municipal spending and development unduly focused on Uptown
Could this happen? Anything is possible don’t ya think but consider this Oliver Porter who spearheaded the Sandy Springs GA break from Atlanta took 30 years of persistence!
